Single on Valentine's Day? 5 Activities You Can Do to Beat the Valentine's Day Blues

For whatever the reason, are you finding yourself single on Valentine's Day? Many people find that Valentine's Day, especially after a break up, can be almost unbearable.

However, you do not have to buy in to the stereotype of the "sad, lonely single" who goes into seclusion at home with only a box of chocolates for company.

Refuse to fall into the trap many singles do by letting all of the hype surrounding Valentine's Day cause them to feel sorry for themselves. Instead choose to "turn the tables" on this holiday. Use Valentine's Day to celebrate your life, your singleness, and all the blessings that you already have.

Here are a few examples of what other singles are doing to chase the Valentine's Day blues away:

  1. Host a movie night. Rent movies, invite your other single friends over and have a blast. My friends and I have rented really bad B movies ( like the ones shown on the SCI-FI Network every Saturday) ordered pizza, and poked fun at how cheesy the movies are.
  2. Volunteer. Very few activities can help you get over the blues faster than doing something good for someone else. This Valentine's Day spread some joy by helping others. You will get it multiplied back many times over.
  3. Pass out platonic Valentines. Buy a box of those little paper Valentines we used to buy as children. Then pass them out to your family, friends and co-workers. In doing so, you will be reminded of how much love you do have in your life. Also, it will bring a smile to many a face, including yours!
  4. Have a boys/girls night out. Ladies grab your girlfriends, get dressed up and go out for a fun night of dancing. Men, plan a guys' night out of harmless frivolity. The point is to get out there and enjoy being single.
  5. Game Night. This is a personal favorite! Dust those old board games off the shelf. Call all of your friends over and host a game night. Games like Candy Land, Life, and Twister are immensely enjoyable and tend to bring out the child-like joy in all of us.

Remember, being single does not mean that you have to dread Valentine's Day. Quite the contrary, whether you decide to spend the day alone with a good book, or have a blowout with your friends, the point is to do what brings you joy not only on Valentine's Day, but every day!
